Eucalypts of Narrogin - Art, Science and Story

Experimenting with dyes and colour with our eucalypts
Dyes: mordants, iron, shibori, wax, stamps, paint
Experimenting with colours found with different mordants before dyeing, and by applying mordant pastes as stamps or paint. Iron can give strong dark colours with the tannins in eucalypts. Resists offer another way to add contrasts. Various shibori techniques have produced interesting lines and shapes, and wax resist is lots of fun.
A further element which provides variety is the different results obtained from cold immersion dyeing and from heating the dye bath.
This work is only done on cotton, and texture, weave and weight add another factor.
